Updates for the week of August 3, 2020
Quebec:
- The provincial government announced financial support for tourism businesses in several regions that are suffering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The government allocated $465,462 for Tourisme Îles de la Madeleine, $847,628 to Tourisme Gaspésie, and $1,386,812 to Tourisme Bas-Saint-Laurent.
- The funds come from the establishment of the 2020-2022 Regional Tourism Partnership Agreement.
Ontario:
- The provincial government will invest $1.5 million through the new Tourism Economic Development Recovery Fund and offer promotional incentives for provincial attractions to help the tourism industry after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saskatchewan:
- Innovation Saskatchewan is providing $50,000 to help women entrepreneurs flourish in the technology sector.
- The funding will support a mentorship program called Founders Table which brings together female tech entrepreneurs to gain new knowledge, business skills and industry connections.

Alberta:
- The provincial government will provide each of Alberta’s five First Nations colleges with $100,000 in one-time funding for COVID-19 supports.
- The grant will address technology and Wi-Fi access, support online programming development and delivery, and assist with improved cleaning protocols.
- The provincial government will provide $48 million to continue supporting people struggling with homelessness during the pandemic.
- This funding is in addition to $25 million announced in March, and is part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan.
British Columbia:
- Workers and employers who need to extend temporary layoffs beyond the August 30, 2020, expiry date are reminded to apply for a variance using the Employment Standards Branch’s new online application by August 25.

- Through a $402,105 Community and Employer Partnership project, the Surrey Board of Trade will develop a plan for local employers to navigate their capacity to respond to COVID-19 workforce needs, and help workers connect to employment opportunities.
